Over the past few years we have planted trees on rocks, through a tile and put together forest plantings. What is the next step? Bring your projects to review and see what needs to be done next. For those of you who missed these past workshops we will have some material available for you to make your own. Bring a rock if you would like to do a root over rock. Materials will be provided for the tile project. Otherwise bring your own tree or project and join the fun.

Trees are not for sale but the artwork will be, each piece will interpret the trees in a variety of media. Come learn about the tradition, beauty and craft of the Bonsai.
"I am very excited about this collaboration between bonsai and the art world; it should be a fascinating exhibit! Get it on your calendars!" ~ Jersan

Join us at Cass Bonsai on Saturday the 24th from 9am-1pm for a hands on workshop with one of our finest black pine enthusiasts, Mike Bartley. This is a bring your own or buy your own tree workshop. Brian always keeps a good stock of pines and other species to purchase. Don't miss this club event even if you don't have a black pine. We will have many knowledgeable club members to help. There will be lots to learn, great socializing, inspiration and shopping.
WORKSHOP OPPORTUNITY - SAVE THE DATE! The club will be sponsoring a Boxwood workshop at Cass Bonsai Gardens on Saturday, October 3rd. ALL ARE WELCOME. Chris J. will lead the workshop. Cost will be $60 and will include a tree and the necessary wire; please bring your own tools, or you can buy some from Cass on the day. Brian from Cass will bring an example or two of the workshop trees to forthcoming meetings. Boxwoods are wonderful bonsai specimens and are drastically underutilized, in my opinion. Chris will help you to give your tree your first styling, and Chris can pass along some of the techniques he has used to reduce leaf size significantly over time, too. So, come on out, get a good start on a nice tree, spend some time with us, and support your local club.
The exhibit is titled, " The Art of the Tree" that features the work of two photographers who worked with Ansel Adams. The dates of the exhibit are Friday, August 14th from 3pm-9pm and Saturday, August 15th from 9am-3pm. It is also a fundraising event for the Shaw Nature Reserve.
The Bonsai Society of Greater St. Louis will be showing 6 to 8 trees as accents and compliments to the photography exhibit. Please come out and see bonsai in this unique setting and check out the stunning photography offered in this show.
